Sunflowerman

I’d like you all to meet a doll, inspired by the awesome... the incredible... the one and only, aesthetically brilliant genius of art and illustration: @sunflowerman!!! @sunflowerman is a painter, a menswear illustrator, a style icon, and a personal hero of mine!! If you are passionate about art, coffee, fashion, watches, or any combo of the above, I can’t recommend following his accounts enough!! And keep an eye out for the little Sunflowerman dragon! ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ‰

Working on this project has been an incredible honor for me! It has taken me almost a year to complete, and is a project of many firsts; Including my first time rerooting a doll, my first time working with this type of curly hair, and my first time customizing a mini molded hat! I’ve carefully assembled a collection of accessories and pieces, for this tiny gentleman, inspired by Sunflowerman’s more casual styles. However, I will leave any face repainting to the talents of @sunflowerman himself. If you’ve seen his work, you’ll understand why! ๐Ÿ˜

Here's another view of the little @Sunflowerman inspired guy! This time he’s got some Texas vibes, and a cup of espresso to start the day. ☕️✨ last minute, he seemed a bit chilly in just shirtsleeves, so Gus gave him his leather jacket. ๐Ÿ˜„

An homage to @sunflowerman the globetrotter; the artist “born with a pencil in his hand;” the appreciator and creator of international treasures. ✏️✒️๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ–Œ

Grigio Perla 007 Swim Trunks

It’s fall, but cold water doesn’t bother a good model. ๐Ÿ˜† Lucian is splashing in swimwear inspired by the iconic two-tone GrigioPerla trunks, worn by Daniel Craig, in Casino Royale (scroll to see the inspo).

A Quick Announcement

Hey everyone, a quick announcement: I’m temporarily closing the Tiny Apparel Bespoke Waiting List for the spring/summer season. If you have already requested a custom project, don’t worry. I will continue to work through all the orders that are currently on the list. ๐Ÿ™‚

This summer, I will also be making limited edition hand-stitched pieces, as I have time, and listing them on my etsy shop. I’m also looking forward to sharing new sewing pattern designs in the upcoming season as well. Thank you all so much for the support you have shown me thus far! I’m excited to explore more of the world of miniature menswear design, as I streamline my creative process.

Back in the Tailoring Studio

Exciting updates from the tailoring studio: two bespoke suits are completed, and three more are in progress. ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿงต๐Ÿชก๐Ÿ“Gus is modeling a royal blue number with cream paisley lining, and he’s flipped the jacket of the 2nd suit insideout on the dress form, so you can see its metallic peacock lining. ๐Ÿฆš✨

Bespoke Suit City

This season, In addition to a few other projects, the Tiny Apparel Bespoke workshop is busy with not one, not two, but four wedding suits!

I always love delving into the world of classic tailoring, and making suits for such meaningful occasions is especially wonderful! Some of the suits are even inspired by clients’ real-life wedding attire. I sincerely hope I can make everything to all the grooms’ satisfaction.

Gus, here, is modeling bespoke braided side-tab trousers from one of the ensembles.

Modeling a Sock Sweater

Today Gus is modeling a bespoke turtleneck sweater for one of my clients. He requested a dupe of Gus’ favorite caramel sock sweater, and I made a discovery: The rate of turnover in sock styles is intense! Last season’s socks were nowhere to be found, let alone socks from a few seasons ago. Happily, after lots of searching, I was able to find a pretty close match, with this soft taupe material.

Air Jordans

A while ago, a buddy of mine challenged me to try and make a pair of miniature 1985 Air Jordan 1 sneakers. I’d never made any kind of athletic shoe before, so I took my time, figuring out each step, building them over the summer, from a pair of Ken high tops, faux leather, thread, and paint. While they don’t have every component of the originals, I aimed to capture the classic design concept as best I could. They finally got their laces, last week, and now Gus gets to model them!! A big thank you for this idea and inspiration, that lead to me learning something new!

Bespoke Madras Shorts

Last week I just completed another bespoke project! These Enterbay Action Figure madras shorts, imagined and requested by @carliekarl, are made with a one-of-a-kind custom textile. I started with a madras plaid cotton, hand embroidered more stripes onto it, to scale down the design, and then steeped the whole garment in Earl Grey tea, for a unique finish!

A Fashion Survey

With autumn right around the corner, I asked Instagram followers what menswear sewing patterns they all would like to see in the Tiny Apparel Pattern Shop, going forwards! Gus, here, volunteered to play secretary, and take notes. i got some great responses, and I'm looking forward to making them available in the future!

Bespoke for Barbie

Gus is in his tailor’s studio, helping test the drape of some fabric (for a project that is a bit outside my usual repertoire!) while his neighbor, George, waits to get her measurements taken. Miniature artist, @carliekarl, requested a bespoke Barbie-sized shirt dress, and Gus and I are doing our upmost to get it right. This project reminded me forcibly of two things, 1: the iconic photo of mid-century design genius, Jacques Fath, draping fabric in his studio, with his wife, Geneviรจve, and 2: @adrian.dollslife ‘s May photo theme for the #adriandollslifekenchallenge “Anything for you, Barbie!” Scroll down to see George modeling the finished dress, and the faux suede jacket that was requested along with it.

These pieces were inspired by the this jacket and shirt-dress from this past Autumn/Winter Polo Ralph Lauren ladies' collection.

Bespoke Loafer Set

They’ve been a long time in the making, but I finally completed four more pairs of paper loafers! Two @coach inspired turnlock pairs, one pair with @saintcrispins inspired intertwining straps, and one glossy pair of #belgianloafers with bows. I hope they will bring lots of joy to the Ken dolls in their new homes!

A Bespoke Suede Jacket

Gus is wandering through the tailoring studio, and has stopped in front of his dress form.
Gus: “who’s tiny little jacket is that? There is absolutely no way I’m gonna fit in that thing!”               Don’t worry Gus, you don’t have to.

The petite faux suede safari jacket is a very special tailor-made request from @carliekarl. Gus’ neighbor, George, is just the right size for it, and she’s agreed to help model it, so Gus is off the hook.

Harem Pants and Drop-Crotch Joggers

Gus is going boldly boho-chic, modeling a pair of new runway-ready designs for the Tiny Apparel pattern shop! Patterns for these relaxed asymmetrical joggers, and harem pants, were requested a couple of months back. I am so excited to finally have them available! You can find the pattern, including both designs, here.

Gus Suits up for the Ken Doll Photo Project

Here is my 2nd photo for the #adriandollslifekenchallenge, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Ken doll!! Ken was first introduced as the ideal boyfriend for Barbie. However, it takes a village to make a perfect boyfriend, and Gus, here, is ready to pitch in and give Ken an earful of advice, about what to wear on a romantic date with Barbie. As a model, Gus has had first hand experience with all sorts of outfits, and he’s got plenty to say, on the topic of style! The February #adriandollslifekenchallenge theme is “the perfect boyfriend.”

Bespoke Bogey Bags

I‘m so excited to have completed another big project: Three bespoke bags, fully lined, with brass hardware! The two on the left are @lanvinofficial inspired Bogey bags, and the one on the right is a @coach inspired Musette bag. These guys have been a long time in the making. Many thanks to @xenobia219 for requesting these fun designs!

Here’s another view of the three bespoke bags I’ve been working on, and the designer inspiration! Both the brown bags that I made have a blue and yellow plaid lining, and the black bag has a navy and white geometric print lining.
