Happy St. Patrick’s Day

Happy spring weather, and a very Happy St. Patrick’s Day, from Gus and Barry, the pony!!

 

A Miniature Vintage Knit-Along!

As you may recall, Gus learned to knit, over the summer, and made a big beige square, which he is very proud of. Last week, Perry of @tangy.tangelo mentioned that he was planning to knit a sweater, and Gus was completely inspired! I tracked down some beginner-friendly vintage Ken sweater patterns from the 60s, and, Gus and Perry have started a knit-along, knitting their sweaters at the same time. We’ll see how Gus’ turns out!

Gus is curled up with Sinatra and a cozy flannel blanket, knitting away industriously, on his 60s sweater knit-along project! He’s added a series of colorful stripes, to create a gradient effect in the sweater.

It’s the big reveal!! Gus and Perry of @tangy.tangelo have completed their sweaters!! Gus’ is sunset gradient, and Perry’s is a beautiful rich chestnut, which he dyed by hand, using onion skins!! (Check out @tangy.tangelo to see an awesome video of his process!) Gus met with Perry, over zoom, to share his sweater and admire Perry’s fabulous craftsmanship. It’s Gus’ first wearable piece of knitting, since learning to knit last summer, and he is overjoyed to have been able to work on it along side Perry! This knit-along collab has been so much fun and so motivating for me as well! A huge thank you to @tangy.tangelo for all your encouragement along the way!

 

Here’s another look at Gus’ knit-along sweater, made in tandem with @tangy.tangelo! 😃 The knitting pattern is a vintage 60s Ken pullover design, but the stripes are 100% inspired by classic @missoni gradient sweaters!

 

Gus goes Old School for the Ken Doll Photo Project

Gus broke out a bow tie, pomade, and his mirrored aviators, to deliver some old-school, mid-century, silver-screen glamour for the #adriandollslifekenchallenge celebrating Ken’s 60th anniversary. Gus wanted to look extra nice, since this month’s photo challenge theme is: 60 and Still Handsome, and this week also marks the anniversary of the invention of both iconic fashion dolls, Ken, and Barbie!

Bespoke Loafers!

Yesterday, I completed two sets of bespoke paper shoes! The pair on the left are sized for MTM Barbie, and the ones on the right are Ken-sized @coach inspired turn lock loafers. A great big thank you to @carliekarl and @stovallthedoll , for requesting these shoes! You guys are awesome!!

Vroom Vroom!

Gus may be a grown boy, but he’s a firm believer that tiny tractors need sound effects, no matter who’s driving! Gus revs up his scale model #johndeere for the instagram #monday4dolls photo theme: Dolls Play Toys.

Fun fact: did you know that in the 1920s, it was the bee’s knees to feature flowers in menswear advertising? Gus, here, has been challenged to model an electric twist on classic style - and evoke vintage charm at the same time, for the latest #dollslifemagazine! Check out the new edition here! There are some really lovely interviews this month!!!

Gus at the Barn

Gus is at the barn, doing a little late morning pony polishing. It may be freezing cold, but Barry, the Hackney pony, is already starting to think about shedding.

Warm in Wintery White

Yesterday was dazzlingly bright and sunny, so today, Gus remembered to wear his shades. He didn’t check the weather, though, and now it looks like snow. 

Overalls Sewing Pattern

I just added a new pattern to the shop, designed by special request, but available to all! These rugged, roomy overalls are hand-sewing friendly, and can hold their own, against whatever wear and tear Gus, Sinatra, and Barry the pony, can throw at them. The pattern can be found here.

Gus and Sinatra are having a paw-sitively grrr-eat Palentine’s Day! I hope you all are having a lovely Valentine’s Day too!

Gus Suits up for the Ken Doll Photo Project

Here is my 2nd photo for the #adriandollslifekenchallenge, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Ken doll!! Ken was first introduced as the ideal boyfriend for Barbie. However, it takes a village to make a perfect boyfriend, and Gus, here, is ready to pitch in and give Ken an earful of advice, about what to wear on a romantic date with Barbie. As a model, Gus has had first hand experience with all sorts of outfits, and he’s got plenty to say, on the topic of style! The February #adriandollslifekenchallenge theme is “the perfect boyfriend.”

Adrian's Birthday Party!

Wishing a very Happy Birthday, and Instagram anniversary, to the amazing photographer, artist, journalist, friend, and all-around inspiration, @adrian.dollslife!!! Gus and Lucian are celebrating in Gus’ greenhouse with a pot of hot green tea. Lucian baked a double raspberry chocolate cake from a favorite family recipe, and Gus decorated it for the occasion, with fresh berries. They’ll be sure you get a generous piece.

I want to say a great big Thank you, @adrian.dollslife , for all the incredible work you do, each month, industriously gathering #dollstagram news, and giving a spotlight to so many fabulous creators in #dollslifemagazine! I think it brings so much joy to the whole doll community!! You are truly amazing!!!
